Theoretically, “We have access to all the world’s knowledge”

— unfortunately, when we want to find something specific, the search engine does not always show us what we have already seen before — for such situations we should introduce a system of managing our information to make it our knowledge.

So how to make real use of information that flows to us every day?

#1 Let’s start with the sources of information…

It’s all those favorite social media you spend hours on every day:

My most used apps on June 7th

My biggest weakness is Twitter and Reddit, and yours?

During these hours, despite appearances, we also hit on valuable information that:

  • We often skip (after all, it looks more inviting to our monkey mind to see another video with a funny cat than an infographic on how to create a second brain),
  • They are not saved (and escape somewhere in the depths of the endless feed).

(Assuming we were more intentional about using social media):

#1 step result: links of posts that may be useful in the future.

#2 Now organisation and processing:

Sounds simple — we need a single repository for information from multiple social media channels — so we can easily find our way around them later.

This is where the problem arises.

Seemingly I could use Pocket, Readwise or my favorite note-taking app for this, but:

I’m not productive enough to organize all the links into the right folders/tags every time — it’s a waste of my time.

After all, we bring “workflow” into our lives to make them easier, not harder.

In a sense of need
I created a solution, initially for my own research needs — an Automated Second Brain — (join waitlist http://brainapp.xyz)

#2 step result: we have a searchable solution with information from multiple sources that helps, not adds work.

#3 Final result

What can we do next with such structured information?

Depends on what purpose we have at the time to pull out a particular piece of information, like an ace up our sleeve.

It can be:

  • The missing piece of our story to be fully understood by friends
  • A source for newly added Obsidian or Logseq thought (who has never committed subtle cognitive bias?)
  • Information you saw while scrolling Twitter a few weeks ago that may be the solution to your current task

#4 Now all you have to do is to implement it in your life

Thanks for reading

I conduct cognitive science researches (memorization, human motivations, productivity) and write about finding yourself in a world of information.

If you want to read more on this topic you know what to do :)
